Community Engagement: Pivoting Active Transportation Safety Planning During the COVID-19 Pandemic

UC Berkeley SafeTREC’s Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) has been developed to provide quick, easy and free access to California crash data from the Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) that has been geo-coded to make it easy for users to query, map, and download collision data.

Safety on Our Streets: Traffic Safety in San José 

According to the latest traffic safety data from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) while traffic fatalities have decreased 5.1% from 3,798 in 2018 to 3,606 in 2019, the safety for those walking and biking in our communities continues to be a concern. In 2019, there were 972 pedestrian fatalities (a 0.6% decrease from 2018) and 133 bicyclist fatalities (a 19.5% decrease from 2018).

The Collaborative Sciences Center for Road Safety (CSCRS) has launched a new Safe Systems Summer Learning Series! This series of free virtual events was held on Fridays in July and August 2021, beginning with the first session, Redefining Safety, on Friday, July 16.

UC Berkeley SafeTREC is excited to release the California Traffic Safety Survey 2021 led by Ewald & Wasserman Research Consultants (E&W). This study was conducted on behalf of the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and the Safe Transportation Research and Education Center (SafeTREC) at the University of California, Berkeley.
