Share your feedback now in the Pedestrian Level of Traffic Stress National Survey

June 20, 2025

The Center for Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety (CPBS) team at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee has launched a Pedestrian Level of Traffic Stress (PLTS) National Survey, where survey results will be used to help refine the PLTS, a tool that transportation agencies use to rate how comfortable pedestrians feel on specific roadways.

The survey aims to gather pedestrians’ perceived stress levels around automobile traffic while walking along or across different types of roadways. Survey participants are asked to view short clips of roadways and rate how comfortable they would feel walking across the street.

The survey should take approximately ten minutes to complete and may only be taken once. All people over 18 years old and residing in the United States qualify and are encouraged to take the survey.

The survey is available to take now and will close on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

About the CPBS

The Center for Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety (CPBS) is a Tier-1 University Transportation Center (UTC) supported by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) and led by the University of New Mexico (UNM). CPBS’s goal is to eliminate pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities and serious injuries through research, education, technology transfer, and workforce development.

The UC Berkeley team, led by SafeTREC Director Julia Griswold, is one of five partnering institutions, along with the University of New Mexico, San Diego State University, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
