Nikou Khoshnevis Asl is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley, specializing in transportation engineering. She is also a graduate student researcher at UC Berkeley SafeTREC, where she assists with projects identifying speeding-related crash locations and pedestrian safety. Nikou completed her M.S. in transportation engineering at UC Berkeley and her BSc. in civil engineering from the Amirkabir University of Technology in Tehran, Iran.
Kyler is a second-year master's student in UC Berkeley's City and Regional Planning program, with a focus on mobility safety and access to affordable housing. He has worked at several community-serving nonprofits and, most recently, on state and local active transportation policy at the national advocacy group PeopleForBikes. At UC Berkeley SafeTREC, Kyler is supporting the Community Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program (CPBSP) and the center's other active transportation safety research priorities.
Jacob Champlin is a second year M.S. and MCP student in both transportation engineering and city planning at UC Berkeley. His research interests are in transportation equity, land use, and traffic safety for vulnerable road users. When not doing schoolwork, Jacob loves to explore the outdoors with his bike and finish an adventure with a scrumptious vegetarian meal at his local Taco Bell.
Wesley Darling is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley and a graduate student researcher at UC Berkeley SafeTREC. Wesley has received an M.S. in transportation engineering from UC Berkeley, a B.S. in civil engineering from University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a B.S. in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Tristan Erz is a master's student in the Department of Statistics at UC Berkeley, specializing in data science and machine learning. He is also a graduate student researcher at UC Berkeley SafeTREC, where he is working on a project to detect edge case scenarios for autonomous driving from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash data. Tristan received his B.S. in computer science in Germany and worked for three years as a data scientist in the AV/ADAS department at Mercedes-Benz.
Celia Johnson is a graduate student researcher at UC Berkeley SafeTREC, looking at the impacts of weight-related road safety policies. She is currently pursuing a dual master's in public health and public policy, with a focus on how policy shapes population health outcomes and equity in access to and quality of healthcare services. Before SafeTREC, Celia conducted research at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, where she primarily evaluated nurse-led models of care in Medicaid, interventions to address social determinants of health, and behavioral health inequities. Celia...
Connor McCaffrey is a master's student in the Department of Statistics at UC Berkeley, with research interests in statistical computing and its applications to environmental science and public health. He holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and applied statistics from the University of Virginia. Currently, he is working on a project for Caltrans to estimate wet-pavement exposure using statewide precipitation data. This project updates prior research from 2008 to assess how climate change has impacted rainfall across California.
Masuma Mollika Miti is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley, specializing in transportation engineering. She is also a graduate student researcher at SafeTREC, where she assists with projects identifying speeding-related crash locations.
