UC Berkeley SafeTREC, in collaboration with California Walks, launched the Community Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program (CPBSP) to reduce pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities and serious injuries in California. Peer Exchange Overview

The Peer Exchange Program is a three-part webinar series for individuals, community agencies, and governmental agencies interested in furthering ideas and actions that surfaced in the past Community Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Trainings (CPBST) or Comunidades Activas y Seguras (Active and Safe Communities) (CAyS) program trainings. As of 2023, SafeTREC and California Walks have conducted 126 Community Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program (CPBSP) workshops statewide.

The 2024 California Traffic Safety Public Opinion Study was conducted by Ewald & Wasserman Research (E&W) on behalf of the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and the Safe Transportation Research and Education Center of UC Berkeley (SafeTREC), using an online self-administered survey. SafeTREC is offering free Complete Streets Safety Assessments (CSSA) to 16 California communities, including cities and public schools/colleges with a population greater than 2,500, all counties, and all Federally Recognized Tribes.

CSSAs are comprehensive transportation safety assessments that focus on pedestrian and bicycle safety. They help eligible communities identify and implement traffic safety solutions that lead to improved safety for all users of California’s roadways.
