Praveen Vayalamkuzhi is a postdoctoral researcher at Safe Transportation Research and Education Center (SafeTREC), where he works on transportation safety management projects. Primarily, he does research on improving highway safety along the California state highway system for the Department of Transportation (Caltrans). His interest in road safety began during the spring semester of 2010 when he had the opportunity to work on road safety assessment projects in India. Later in 2017, he earned his PhD in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), where he studied the level of safety of highways operated under heterogeneous traffic flow. He developed an interest in career and professional development through serving the Berkeley Postdoctoral Association as the secretary, and Beyond Academia, a student organization on the campus as a co-director. He also works with the graduate division for the professional development of graduate students and postdocs, and a passion for building diverse teams, education and exploration. In 2019, he awarded the Postdoctoral Achievement Award of the Visiting Scholars and Postdoctoral Affairs, UC Berkeley.
Praveen aspires to pursue a career in transportation engineering and works for a safer infrastructure for all the road users.
